Mulled Wine Punch
Ingredients:
- One 16oz bottle of Pom Pomegranate juice
- 3 cups unsweetened apple juice
- 1 bottle inexpensive bottle of red wine such as Cabernet
- 15 whole cloves
- 5 whole cinnamon sticks
Put all items in your Instant Pot or a large saucepan on the stove. Heat the punch until it is warm, but don’t let it get to the point of bubbling.
Let your guests ladle the punch into mugs and have a plate of sliced oranges, cut into quarters, for your guests to garnish the rim of their cups.
Popped Sorghum
Basic Popped Sorghum:
- Put 1 cup of whole sorghum in a sauce pan. Cover the pan and put it over medium-high heat on your stove. With your hand on the lid handle, move the pan quickly back and forth over the heat to shake the sorghum inside the pan. (Perhaps you did this with popcorn when you were young. It’s the same action.) Within a couple of minutes you will hear popping. When the popping begins to slow down, remove the pan from the heat and keep moving the pan back and forth until the popping stops.
- Pour the popped sorghum into a serving bowl. Definitely shake salt over it and toss the sorghum to coat all of it with salt. You may want to coat the sorghum with melted butter if you wish. I find it tastier with just salt so the delicious flavor of the sorghum comes through. However, please enjoy it as you like it best!
Bacon Popped Sorghum:
If you want to add bacon (wooo hooo!) please follow this recipe:
- Dice ½ lb of your favorite bacon and add it to a sauce pan. Cook the bacon until it is almost as crisp as you usually like it.
- Pour the popped sorghum and bacon into a serving bowl. Shake salt over your snack and enjoy!
Final Thoughts:
Both versions of the popped sorghum make delicious afternoon snacks! Sorghum is a strong source of protein, fiber and antioxidants and has a wonderful flavor, so it will fill you up and satisfy your taste buds!
